Lifetime Learning School at Monmouth Grace UMC is an Oasis for elderly Korean-Americans,
as well as a place of learning and socializing.
The school was organized with the cooperation of Eatontown Catholic Church, Korean Church of New Jersey,
and Monmouth Grace UMC.? The school opened in January 2000 and has been meeting every Saturday afternoon
at 1:00 PM at Monmouth Grace UMC.
The school teaches useful material such as English, American History and culture, social support,
as well as music, dance, exercise classes, and crafts.? Invited speakers are brought in to teach students
on special topics.? Trips and outdoor classes help elderly enjoy the nature.? After classes, dinner and fellowship
times follow.
The school is financed by the tuition of $20 per semester, along with generous support from donors.?
Monmouth Grace UMC provides the facilities, including classrooms and utilities.
In order for the Lifetime Learning school to be a more integral part of Korean-American society,
1) School needs to better define its goals
2) Find and nurture people who volunteer to work at the school,
3) develop financial resources to better fund the activities.?
Korean-American society, especially the Korean-American churches,
should be an important provider for these resources.
